Trace an Adopted Adult
Trace a Birth Relative

All information must be sourced from the original birth certificate

If you are trying to trace an adopted person, you will need to know their post-adoptive name before you can start to find relatives with the assistance of Tracesmart.

If you do not know their name after adoption, you may still be able to trace the adoptee through an approved adoption agency. The Adoption & Children Act 2002 requires all agencies to offer an outreach or intermediary service to birth relatives, either directly or through an approved agency.

Birth relatives will not be given any information relating to the identity of the adopted person. The onus will be on the adopted person to decide whether or not they wish to be contacted.
